Sophia is the creative mind, she is the bright colors you find in the blooming fields and the fresh mountain air.

Sophia is an artist, a graphic designer and one of our LaMunt crew members. Other than this she is also a sporty woman, who loves spending time in nature with her husband and two daughters, climbing, hiking and enjoying mountain bike rides.

She has been in our LaMunt Crew since day one, she saw our first prototypes, tested our products, and keeps helping us in the production process by giving us feedback and participating in our workshops and LaMunt crew events. Recently she joined us in our project “Care & Repair” which aims to reduce apparel consumption and lengthen the product life by teaching how to take care of our garments.

We decided to interview her to discover more about her creative world and how she gets inspiration for her work and life.

Do you feel a connection between your creativity and the time spent in the mountains?

Definitely, because when I am in the mountains it’s quality time that I spend with family and friends. And if I have an idea, I'll talk about it and ask for opinions and input. Talking about ideas to others – for me – is making them real. It might take a bit, but when I’ve spoken about there is no going back and eventually, they will be real.

How do the mountains inspire you?

More nature itself – color combinations or patterns I see there. It can be the shape of a rock or the shades of a certain color. I love the moody mystic vibes with fog more than a clear blue sky.

When you need inspiration what is your go-to activity?

Well, that's a good question. I don`t do something on purpose to find inspiration. I just see things in daily life or while being outside anyway. Sometimes really small things. A color combination I see and save for later in my head. But I tell my daughters stories while we are hiking (like my grandpa did to me) and it’s always some random self-invented story. So sometimes this story might become a real children book...

What is your process of transforming the inspiration found outdoors into your creative work?

When I was younger I worked a lot with Photoshop and did a lot of collages with the photos I took outside and mountains were often the centerpiece. Also in my drawings... sometimes I completely forgot that I once even had an exhibition in Bad Gastein, where only mountain (sports) inspired artists were exhibited. One guy wanted to buy my (still) all-time favorite illustrations, but I couldn’t sell it. Click here to see the illustration.

What are the art tools you could never give up?

My phone camera, simple pencil, digital painting and of course the programs I work with. So nothing? I need them all and love to mix everything! And even a lot of artists are skeptical of AI but for me, I also love those new tools and experimenting with them.

And what are the mountain gear/apparel that you always bring to your Mountain Me-Time?

Warm Jackets and comfy pants. And a backpack full of snacks to keep the girls happy. ;)
